“Patina & Obituaries” Exhibition Premieres at Carriage Hill Gallery
Internationally-exhibited
fine art photographer Robert Miller’s visual metaphor for life and death
in New Orleans' French Quarter photographically examines the contrast between
the sheer joy of living in the Vieux Carre and its turbulent history of
centuries of horrible plagues, floods and fires – spirited Mardi Gras joviality
versus bleak Cities of Dead.
The Carriage Hill MetroPark
Gallery hosts the World Premiere of “Patina & Obituaries of the Vieux
Carre” from November 1 through December 31, 2004.
A gala Opening Reception
will be held on Friday, November 5, 2004 from 6-8 PM in the gallery.
The emotionally-striking
large format negatives were printed using a rare traditional process called
"unsharp masking." This involves creating a soft, fuzzy positive
image of the original negative on another sheet of film, then printing
the negative (the original) and the positive (the mask) together in the
enlarger. The painstaking procedure gives the final print a visibly
sharper image with extended shadow detail and more emotional content possible
than by ordinary darkroom methods.
Gallery hours are 10 AM-5
PM Monday though Friday and 1-5 PM on weekends More information can
be found on the artist’s website: www.robertmiller.org.
All events are free and
open to the public.
